first meeting: tousled sheets under the early afternoon sun

Although this may be a bit short of two years premature…

It’s early afternoon when my tires curve into the driveway of the lake house. He’s standing just outside the house, keeping Skywalker behind the door. He begins towards me, reaching me as I shut the car door. We smile and say nothing – a comfortable silence that respects a moment anticipated for – what is it now? Three years? He grabs my waist, my frame smaller than he expected even though he knows I am thin. My legs wrap around him as he lifts me into the air. As his hands readjust, moving down my back, my hand brushes against the side of his face. Our mouths move slowly towards each other’s – they are eager but have been taught by the patience of time. It’s funny – it’s just how he said it would be. He turns and slowly starts forward, never taking his lips from mine. He sits me on top of the hood of the car and I release my legs from around his body. Seconds go by before I grab his shirt and pull his chest over mine, moving my hands back to his face. I almost forget myself in this moment – I pull away quickly which pulls him out of the dream-like state too. He moves up a bit so that his body is hovering above mine, still lying on top of the car. His hands are on either side of me steadying himself as he slides away from the kiss. With a slight raise of eyebrows my lips let out a “Hi” with a smile, acknowledging that, entangled in each other, we both forgot formal greetings. He lets out a quick laugh before uttering a “Hi” in return.
